WHY DO AFRICAN STUDENTS RUNAWAY FROM PURSUING SCIENCE

Postby KWAKU KYEI-BAFFOUR » Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:14 pm

suprisingly most AFRICAN STATES continue thinking and talking about bridging the gap between themselves and the developed states in the west. but these states continually fund the education of students in the basic arts, with so-called economists and lawyers taking center stage in policy making, the question i usually ask is where are the scientists and engineers? When we have nations ruled and governed by litigants what do we expect? your guess is as good as mine. What africa really needs are problem solvers and quick thinkers, i look at nations like china, the US, and so on and ask myself where would they have been if they didn't invest much in science and technology.

I completely agree with you. Even though the Arts and Behavioral sciences have a lot to teach us, I believe very strongly that one of the key thing Africa needs now is serious 'brain gain' and the best way to do that is to encourage more students to study the sciences and engineering.

I'd like to see other people think about this.

Great post!
