The absence of ailing Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua, and the almost complete lack of information about his whereabouts and health condition, has created controversy about whether or not Acting President Goodluck Jonathan should be made substantive president or not. There are those who believe Jonathan should remain in acting position, until the re-appearance of Yar'Adua. There are those who believe that the President's apparent condition may have incapacitated him, and that like would happen in superior democracies, the succession process which the Nigerian Constitution guarantees should be allowed to take its course by the invocation of Section 144 by the Federal Executive Council.
